FAQS
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the form and function of the nose. It is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed in the world. Dr. Sanan is a top surgeon for rhinoplasty in Boston. He delivers natural, long-lasting results for years to come.
In addition to being board-certified in Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sanan is also board-certified in head and neck surgery (ear, nose and throat surgery residency). This unique background allows Dr. Sanan to perform the optimal nasal surgery for his patients.
Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty is a surgical technique used to reshape the nose. It involves the use of a piezoelectric device, which generates ultrasonic energy to precisely and selectively sculpt bone and cartilage from the nose. This technique is less invasive than traditional rhinoplasty methods and may lead to less postoperative pain, swelling, and bruising.
A good candidate for Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty is generally someone who has a well-defined, specific concern about the appearance or function of their nose. They should have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure, and understand that the surgery may not achieve their desired look perfectly but it will definitely improve the appearance of the nose.
Patients with a deviated septum, difficulty breathing, wide nasal bones, dorsal hump and/or a bulbous tip may be good candidates for Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty.
It is also important for a patient to be in good general health and without any medical conditions that would complicate surgery or healing.
It is best to consult with a skilled and experienced facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Sanan to evaluate your case and provide an assessment if ultrasonic rhinoplasty would be a good option for you.
Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia. The procedure begins with Dr. Sanan making small incisions inside the nostrils and along the columella (the area of skin between the nostrils).
Once the incisions have been made, Dr. Sanan will use the Ultrasonic Piezo device to generate ultrasonic energy, which is delivered to the nose through a small, hand-held instrument. The energy waves emitted by the device vibrate at a high frequency, allowing Dr. Sanan to precisely and selectively sculpt bone and cartilage from the nose.
The vibrating motion also helps to minimize bleeding, as the energy waves limit trauma to small blood vessels. This can decrease the chance of bruising and swelling after the surgery.
Once the desired amount of bone and cartilage has been sculpted, the remaining tissue is reshaped and sculpted to create a more desirable contour. The incisions are then closed and dressings and splints are applied to help the nose maintain its new shape during the healing process.
The entire procedure can take three to four hours, depending on the complexity of the surgery and the extent of reshaping required. Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty is considered less invasive than traditional rhinoplasty and generally results in less pain, swelling, and bleeding.
Depending on your aesthetic goals, an Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty alone may not give you the facial transformation you’re imaging and looking for. Dr. Sanan will perform a full facial analysis during your consultation and ask you to describe what your goals are. It is possible to pair other procedures with male rhinoplasty.
The nose and chin are closely intertwined when assessing facial harmony. A chin implant can be performed at the same time as your Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty. Improving chin projection, in patients who have a small or recessed chin, makes the nose appear less prominent.
Recovery from Piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty typically involves some mild discomfort and swelling, but it is generally considered less extensive than recovery from traditional rhinoplasty.
Immediately following the procedure, you will have nasal dressings and splints in place to help the nose maintain its new shape during healing. These will typically be removed one week after surgery. You may also experience some bleeding or drainage from the nose for the first few days.
Swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose can be expected for up to two weeks, and you will be instructed to keep your head elevated and avoid blowing your nose for a period of time after the surgery. It is also important to avoid any strenuous activities, bending or lifting. Most people can resume normal activities within 2 weeks, but should avoid heavy exercise and other activities that might cause injury to the nose for 6 weeks.
As the nose heals, patients will notice gradual improvement in the appearance of their nose. The full healing time from a rhinoplasty is one year.
It is important to keep follow-up with Dr. Sanan to check on the healing process, and to discuss any concerns or questions you may have during the recovery period.
The cost of Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty varies depending on a number of factors including the surgeon’s experience, as well as the complexity of the surgery. Dr. Sanan is uniquely trained and board-certified in both head and neck surgery, and in facial plastic surgery. He has dedicated his entire training and career to facial plastic surgery. Rhinoplasty is one of Dr. Sanan’s passions and he has performed over 500 rhinoplasties in his career.
On average, the cost of Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty ranges from $12,000 to $15,000. However, it can be higher or lower based on the specific case. It is important to note that the cost of the procedure can also include additional expenses such as pre- and post-operative appointments, anesthesia, and post-operative care. Dr. Sanan does not accept insurance. Some insurances may cover some of the cost “out-of-network” but the patient has to correspond with their insurance company to determine this.
You will be provided with a detailed cost estimate from Dr. Sanan’s office after your consultation. It is important to ask about any additional expenses that may not be included in the initial cost estimate. Patients travel from across the United States to undergo rhinoplasty with Dr. Sanan based on his qualifications, experience, and results.
